Meet Joel Abramson, Partner at Top Down Ventures. From 2013 to 2022, Joel co-led Fully Managed, a major multinational Managed IT Services Provider (MSP) acquired by Telus Business Solutions. During his tenure, Joel spearheaded over a dozen acquisitions fueling the Fully Managed growth, and navigated the sale to Telus, showcasing his knack for identifying strategic opportunities and driving successful transactions within the tech sector.

At Top Down, Joel has been instrumental in guiding successful exits for companies like Quoter and Backup Radar. His VC leadership also led to Top Down’s significant investments in ControlMap and Magic Scoop. Since 2020, as a board member and head of corporate development, he has led the successful financing from Integrity Growth Partners and seven acquisitions for portfolio stand-out ScalePad, a HubSpot-like platform for the next generation of tools for MSPs. With the launch of Top Down Fund I, Joel continues to lead investments into the MSP sector, powering the next generation of transformational MSP software leaders.

With a career spanning over two decades in IT and software development, Joel is known for his empathetic and decisive leadership style, ensuring that everyone has a voice and instilling confidence in the team’s direction. As the co-founder and current CEO of Produce8, a digital work analytics platform, Joel leverages his extensive background to drive forward innovative ventures tailored for knowledge workers in an ever-evolving world.

Joel takes pride in his time spent serving as a board member of Vancouver’s Gastown Business Improvement Society, Hollyburn Country Club, Chinatown Business Improvement Council, and the Bloom Group.  He has acted as a member of the Canadian Council of Innovators, as well as an advisor for the Canadian CIO Strategy Council.  He regularly supports many organisations including his alma maters McGill University and St. George’s School. He is an active contributor in educating the business community, often speaking on innovation and M&A, and continues to advise numerous startups and founders in the Canadian technology ecosystem.

In 2016 he was recognized by Business in Vancouver as one of their Top Forty Under 40 recipients, in 2018 was a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award, and in 2021 was recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Executives.

Joel is the co-captain of his young family with his wife Julia, as they watch over their two daughters, Lavinia and Rosalie, and their son Otis. Together they are active travellers, builders, boaters, diners, and adventure seekers.
