Nick Oostveen holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at VoPay, a key player in API-first payment technology across North America. In his leadership role, Nick is tasked with guiding the strategic direction, development, and execution of VoPay’s Fintech-as-a-Service platform. His oversight extends to crucial areas, including fraud prevention tools, process automation, risk intelligence, cybersecurity, and AI-Lab RPA solutions, reflecting his comprehensive approach to advancing the company’s technological initiatives. With a career spanning over two decades, Nick started his journey as a web developer at HI-PERformance Enterprises in 2000 before quickly transitioning first to the role of Programmer Analyst, and later Operations Manager. In that role he led the development team, overseeing ecommerce and web application development projects for notable clients including Envision Financial, the BC Board of Trade, Leading Edge BC (later transitioned into BC’s Ministry of Economic Development) and Elections Ontario. In 2005, Nick founded Gravit-e Technologies, a boutique consultancy and software development firm specialising in helping companies create unique, innovative solutions using software and technology. There, Nick has played a pivotal role in the success of 20+ technology startups, and has provided services to over 100 other companies across diverse industries.
In 2016, he assumed the pivotal role of CTO at VoPay alongside Founder Hamed Arbabi. Together, they propelled the development of a smarter and technologically advanced payment solution to address a major gap in the market that posed challenges for business owners. Beyond his CTO responsibilities, Nick oversees the company’s engagements with industry standards, collaborations with universities, and participation in technical community programs. Nick has been involved in mentoring at the Vancouver chapter of the Founder Institute, a leading ideation accelerator and startup launch program. He has also shared his insights as a seasoned panellist and co-speaker at prestigious events, including FinDEVr, Vancouver Startup Week, Payments Canada Summit, and API World. With a focus on driving software innovation and leading teams to exceptional results, Nick Oostveen’s commitment to excellence and innovation continues to be a driving force in VoPay’s success within the dynamic landscape of technology and finance.
